What is it with the current National led government and its lack of courage ? I put it down to the careerists within the party, in particular swamp rats like Chris Bishop and Nicola Willis. National came in on a strong wave to change the way NZ was heading - it feels like National have meekly surrendered and are lazily wasting their political capital. NZ Politics, its democratic systems and its judiciary are all in a a parlous state.

Agree entirely Peter. It seems the Nats have given up whatever ambitions for change they may’ve harboured.

What astounds me is the apparent lack of political nouse and general savvy of the senior ministers. Erica Standford being particularly disappointing. Reading articles about the "Trump administration" suggests that he and his advisors clamp onto issues that 80% of the population support - and deal with those issues in a manner that 50 or 60% of the 80% will support, meaning that political capital is protected and promoted. National on the other hand seem to cling to outdated policies - Climate Change and Paris being an obvious example - which their supporters do not agree with and as if to spite the electorate box on down the rabbit hole - who is advising these people and who is sitting on the Board of the party. They are incompetent and will see the party destroyed. Luxon himself is a weak leader, no ability to communicate with Ewen Mee and most damning of all he (and many members of his caucus) seem without any guiding principles. I say we should abandon United and Play for City.

When the Govt. hands taxpayers money to private organisations there needs to be systems in place to scrutinise how that money was spent. Otherwise what’s the point. Govt. agencies may as well do the job themselves, as happened in the past.

These Bureaucrats are a small, powerful, incestuous nest of scorpions whose prime concern is their own ideological agenda and looking after their corrupt mates. Unless this coalition Govt. grow a pair and stops the rot, our democracy, or what’s left of it will be down the gurgler.

Brilliant. Even worse than I thought with my cynical best effort. Tamihere is but one (of the worst…) of a huge number of scammy rorts being strategically ignored by Luxflakes & co. I see Destiny Church’s charitable status is being challenged for daring to protest trans-deviancy. Yet Waip Trust and all the hundreds of Iwi charitable entities happily continue their grift. Ngai Tahu have 5 pages worth on the Charities Website. Weak as piss this Govt. To put it mildly.

So what you are telling us is that the Public Service Commission, the Electoral Commission and Statistics NZ each investigated themselves only,

But no one actually investigated the Manurewa Marae, the Maori Party, Waipareira Trust or Te Pou Matakana????

It's unbelievable,

Maybe one should enrol for a degree in entomology, 😰

But the whole set-up whereby government funds are distributed by a private organisation, i.e., Te Whanau/Te Pou Matakana, needs to be properly reviewed to assess whether it's really fit for purpose,

The plethora of ideologically driven, Govt-funded private organizations goes to the heart of the problem. They exist in an opaque twilight zone - not subject to the Official Information Act, don’t have to make their financials public, pay their management huge salaries, vaporize vast amounts of taxpayers’ money and completely unaccountable to the general public.
