An early Christmas present for Free Speech

Candace Owens is a conservative American commentator and pundit who is now due to speak in New Zealand in February 2025. Owens is only allowed to enter New Zealand because Associate Minister of Immigration Chris Penk has overturned an earlier Immigration New Zealand ban on Owens.

In response to Penk’s lifting of the ban, Owens released this statement:

“I am thrilled to be traveling to New Zealand to speak with the people, share ideas, and engage in meaningful conversations. I applaud the Minister for standing up for the rights of individuals to engage in political discourse without fear of being silenced,”

Immigration NZ staffer Jock Gilray announced the Owens ban in November 2024. Immigration NZ banned Owens for the sole, vacuous reason that individuals within that dysfunctional Government agency happen to find Owens odious. It’s the same cancel culture public institutional malfeasance that characterized attempts to ban Posie Parker (Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull) and Avi Yemini from New Zealand. In the typical spirit of Woke disingenuousness, Immigration NZ claimed to have had no choice but to ban Owens…because Australia has banned her. It’s all some attempt at Global Cancel Culture Solidarity.

In banning Owens from Australia, sanctimonious Australian Immigration Minister Tony Burke said lots of self-righteous and patronizing things including “Australia’s national interest is best served when Candace Owens is somewhere else.”

Old McDonald did the Harm

Immigration NZ’s Head Poncho is Alison McDonald. Therefore, Alison must necessarily have been the person who ultimately decided to try and ban Owens from New Zealand.

McDonald is a barmy classic of her kind. Firstly, don’t be fooled. Despite the pounamu pendant, McDonald has no Maori ancestry or cultural affiliation. She’s an England-born woman who cut her teeth in the United Kingdom’s public service before bringing her plodding, pious Wokery to New Zealand in 2013.

McDonald’s Immigration NZ bio states “She…spent 3 years at Te Kawa Mataaho (formerly the State Services Commission)”. But to put you straight Dear Alison…the agency formerly known as the State Services Commission is now named the Public Service Commission, not “Te Kawa Mataaho”.

McDonald is part of a long line of insipid Brits who have infected New Zealand’s public institutions over recent years. Think ex-Human Rights Commissioner with the silent “C”, Paul Hunt. Think ineffectual, Empire building WorkSafe NZ Chief Executive Phil Parkes. Glorified lab technician, crybaby, compulsive attention seeking hypochondriac Siouxie Wiles. And let us not forget fellow traveler political activist judge on the Supreme Court of Aotearoa, Siouxie (Susan) Glazebrook.

Where was Erica in the Penk Rescue Mission?

Chris Penk was tinkled to allow Owens into New Zealand, announcing that he had made his decision “after considering representations made to him, including the importance of free speech”.

But Immigration Minister Erica Stanford was the obvious choice to open the door to Owens. So, where was Ms Stanford when Owens was getting fried? Nowhere to be found, because Erica harbors in her bosom more than a whiff of Wokery, and Wokesters’ base instincts are of course to censor and cancel. In 2019, Stanford supported students “striking” for climate action. Erica believes National could work with the current crop of Crazy Greens if they “could just relax a little bit”. By her own admission, she’s “tealy blue”.

RNZ Jewish selectivity

Predictably, WokeRadio New Zealand has reported adversely on the prospect of Owens blowing into New Zealand. New Zealand’s seditious State broadcaster gleefully republished the following “open letter” from Young Labour calling for an Owens Ban.

WRNZ has also fastened onto Holocaust Centre board chair Deborah Hart who claims that Owens’ mere physical presence in New Zealand will “fuel antisemitism in New Zealand” and “we really don't need someone who espouses anti-Semitic rhetoric right now to be visiting and stoke more hatred”.

Juliet Moses of the New Zealand Jewish Council has taken a more nuanced stance. Juliet has objected to some things Candace Owens has said about Jews, but not to Owens coming to New Zealand. Juliet rightly recognizes that the only cure for silly ideas is more Free Speech.

What’s their real problem with Owens?

The charismatic and articulate Owens is also, without doubt, prone to saying some pretty whacky things. But the real reason Owens grinds Wokester gears is because she’s a conservative woman with brown skin, so she’s perceived to be some sort of anti-Woke turncoat or Aunty Tom.

Owens is a shining example of the myth of intersectionality, the Woke Woo Woo that homosexuals, brown skinned people, and Trans Types are all united in their shared oppression by the White Skinned Heterosexual Male Oppressors.
