Steven O'Regan is an accomplished Fabulist or Opportunist for sure. I was working at Bell Gully with Chris Findlayson when that firm acted for Ngai Tahu in their early 90s settlements. One giant Nudge Nudge Wink Wink. Can't blame Ngai Tahu though. They just sniffed the burgeoning zeitgeist/milieu and went for the money jugular.

Thanks Roger. I had read about the earlier "settlements". People like that Tirikatene, include Sir Apirana Ngata, are now of course regarded by the current "Enlightened" as just misguided Uncle Toms

John- In every case where a new leader has lodged a new claim they have been forced to repudiate the claims and the reputation of a previous leader, so far from showing any respect to their past leaders they have put financial gain ahead of all else. In the 1996 claim Stephen O Reagan claimed they they had so little money that on a tip to the West Coast they were forced to free wheel down hill to save on petrol costs. Dishonest and inventive!

Substantially correct but you omit the facts that Ngai Tahu had various settlement in the 1946 that was signed off a being full and final. The leader of Ngai Tahu at the time was a remarkable man Sir Edward James Te Aika Tregerthen later known as Sir Eruera Tihema Tirikatene born 5th January, 1895. His mother had tribal connections to Ngati Toa of Porirua which also demonstrates the connection with Te Rauparaha who had caused so much destruction in the South Island in the 1830's.
