Dear John,

I am deeply concerned to hear for the first time that you are a "cyclist". Coming out publicly as you have done often results in comments such as "Well done John, very brave." I have known you too long to send out platitudes. Rather I should like to say publicly that I have always been slightly reticent towards you. I always thought there was oddness lurking behind the rims of your spectacles.

Now I know you are a cyclist.

You are kin of Morgan and his tribe. You are a lycrasist.

I wish you no harm, but do suggest you work on your attraction to an outmoded form of transport. Bikes are fickle. Their tyres puncture. Their chains derail and even snap. The brakes are dodgy. Riding bikes gives you warts in various uncomfortable locations. Cyclists are dishonest - look at Lance Armstrong, his team and many others. John, take a cab, get an Uber - buy a car.

John I advise you to use the engine developed by great pioneering anti-cyclists. Come home to the combustion engine.

During one's career, on several occasions one was approached for comments on statements made by "activist organisations". Many of these were just one person with a phone, a word processor and an internet connection. Their fame arose from being an easily available contact for media agencies. Fame went to their heads.
